Visual Storyteller – Mystery

Visual Storyteller and Video Editor- Mystery.Org

San Francisco, California

Job Summary:

As we design the future of Mystery.org, we’re looking to add one or two visual storytellers to create awesome short-form videos for elementary-age children. You’ll be collaborating closely with a team of (currently) six full-time creatives, producers, activity developers, and curriculum experts–a team that came to us from places like the Exploratorium, Klutz, and the Field Museum, as well as from classrooms where they were teachers. Your job will be to use visuals to create clear, engaging explanations for children ages 4-12. You will work on our full range of products, including short-form video (our “mini-lessons” and “explorations” for our K-5 elementary science curriculum), step-by-step activity videos, and our visual discussion stories (“Top 5 Bonus”).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research imagery for our scripts. You’ll research stock imagery, fair use/public domain imagery, and dig deep into the depths of YouTube to find the perfect, engaging assets to pair with scripts.
  • Quickly execute video editing, graphic layout, simple animations, and potentially filming.  Using Premiere, you’ll edit the imagery you’ve found, moving fast without worrying too much about polish and fancy video editing techniques. You work quickly, meeting weekly deadlines for our weekly Mystery Doug show. You’ll conceptualize how to show difficult science concepts simply, storyboarding and executing simple animated diagrams. You’ll layout text and photos for step by step video instructions.
  • Collaborate with your coworkers on the Content Team. You’ll attend collaborative meetings such as brainstorming sessions, activity reviews, and in joint editing meetings. You’ll review draft scripts and suggest ways to incorporate key amazing visuals. You’ll collaborate closely with the activity developers, suggesting ways to make the step-by-step activity instructions crystal clear for kids.
