Technical Manager – Tinkercast

This position is DIRECT HIRE and fully REMOTE. We are looking for someone with incredible passion that has a solid tech stack that also can provide management and strategy for an award-winning K-5 STEM Ed Tech product. This is a great role for someone that wants a seat at the table to provide direction and stewardship for the site.

Tinkercast is an independent children’s media company that inspires millions of families each month to keep their “eyes up, screens down and jaws dropped” with their high- quality STEM-based audio programs and playful learning experiences. The company’s premiere podcast, Wow in the World, which is the number one podcast for kids and recently reached over 150 million downloads, shares stories about science, technology and new discoveries and breaks it down in an entertaining and age-appropriate way for kids and their families.

Role Summary:
The Technical Manager, Digital will be responsible for overseeing, developing, and maintaining technology solutions, platforms, and services for all digital podcast extensions: Tinkercast.com, subscription memberships, e-commerce, Tinkerclass interactive K5 learning platform, and innovative new digital executions as necessary.

The Technical Manager will be the key liaison between Tinkercast and outside engineering and quality assurance firms. While you will not have direct responsibility for writing code, this role requires that you have prior experience managing outside technical teams, familiarity with key technologies, development paradigms, and architectural/engineering best practices. You will be a key player in strategic technical and product decisions.

Former software engineers who have made the jump to product management (or a similar role) but still enjoy understanding and directing technology decisions that drive product growth, will likely have the skills we are looking for!

Duties/Responsibilities:
★ Manage Tinkercast.com, including CMS, membership database, registration and account administration, e-commerce solution, and all associated features
★ Manage Tinkercast K-5 interactive learning platform, including CMS, teacher console, and all associated features
★ Implement and support analytics for digital platforms to make data-driven decisions
★ Support digital content updates with technical support and troubleshooting as needed: weekly podcasts and activities
★ Oversee QA resources and workflow
★ Oversee technical resources and workflow
★ Oversee technical infrastructure – hosting, security, equipment, etc.
★ Work with Sr Digital Tinkerer to identify, source, hire and manage technical resources as necessary.
★ Work with Sr Digital Tinkerer to research and develop technology for new interactive extensions, from concept to launch

Required Education and Experience:
★ 5 – 7 years in web development
★ 2 – 4 years managing technical projects
★ 2 – 4 years managing technical resources – specifically interfacing with outsourced teams and/or contractors.
★ 2 – 4 years managing technical infrastructure and environments
★ Solid understanding of the SDLC and QA best practices
★ Familiarity with cloud-based environments (AWS preferred), and the ability to
troubleshoot and direct solutions
★ Excellent communication skills to keep teams updated on various projects
★ Fluency with digital platforms and passion for interactive solutions
★ Ability to wear many hats and work independently
★ Must be a quick thinker, flexible tinkerer and a pragmatic problem solver.
★ SOFTWARE USED DAILY: Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, Google Suite, Email, Zoom

Preferred skills:
★ Understanding of DevOps – automation and turn-key deployment solutions
★ Managing build pipeline and supporting large web application products at scale
★ Front End: WebSprockets, Vue.js, Fabric.js, Wavesurfer, Bootstrap, SASS/CSS
★ Back End/DevOps: Django CMS (Python), PostGreSQL, GIT, Docker, Restful API’s
★ Experience and/or passion for Children’s Media
★ Experience with Ed Tech learning products
