Writer’s Group: How to Write for Educational Games

July 10, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Join us for an evening on how to write for educational games! This discussion will cover the topics of writing and researching for different age ranges, collaboration, and technology. Ashley Mannetta has experience at two of the top educational gaming apps: HOMER and Tinybop. As the former head researcher at Tinybop, Ashley was able to garner the iPad App of the Year for The Robot Factory. We’ll learn how she went from a Content Manager at Parents’ Choice Foundation to becoming a leading force in research and writing for educational games.

About our Speaker

Ashley Mannetta is the user experience designer and researcher at HOMER, the child-centered learning company that puts individuality at the center of learning. HOMER’s learning apps teach kids to read and fall in love with reading. Previously, Ashley helped research and design content for sixteen apps at Tinybop, an award-winning studio creating educational products, for play at home and in the classroom, to spark the curiosity of kids around the world. She wrote handbooks–which have been translated into 12 languages–for many of Tinybop’s Explorer’s Library apps and supporting materials for educators and parents. Ashley also led user experience research for Tinybop’s interactive products, including The Robot Factory, Apple’s 2015 iPad App of the Year. She contributed actively to the interaction design of each of Tinybop’s apps and to the written documentation of Tinybop’s design guidelines. Ashley also served as the content manager at the Parents’ Choice Foundation, the nation’s oldest nonprofit children’s media review. There, she edited reviews by parents and developed original content for Parents’ Choice newsletters, social media, and blog.

Outside of work, Ashley mentors through Girls Write Now, edits writing for friends, and drafts her own short stories.
