The Red Chair Series: A Conversation with Amy Friedman and Randi Zuckerberg

Join the Children’s Media Association for our biggest event of the year….the Red Chair Series! The Red Chair Series features intimate conversations with the powerhouses of the children’s media business. The event’s unique interview format looks at life, work, and the intersection between the two, providing Children’s Media Association members direct access to the movers and shakers of the industry.

This year, our long time friend, CMA Board Advisor, and Red Chair host Amy Friedman sits down in her iconic red chairs across from New York Times bestselling author, and founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media, Randi Zuckerberg. Randi also hosts “Dot Complicated” on Sirius XM, is the Editor-in-Chief of (an online community helping us to navigate and “untangle” our wired, wonderful lives), and is an executive producer of Dot., an animated TV series on Sprout and Kids’ CBC, which was the 2017 Kidscreen Awards Winner for “Best New Preschool Series. Come prepared for the Q&A portion of the evening for a once in a lifetime opportunity to ask Randi and Amy your burning questions.

Amy Friedman is the Senior Vice President of Programming & Development for Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network. In this role, Friedman is responsible for creating and executing the network’s overall content strategy, as well developing preschool franchises that support both the brand and its business objectives. Friedman leads all development efforts for Sprout Original Series, a slate of both animated and live action projects, and manages the production of the network’s current series, including oversight of Sunny Side Up, the only live daily morning show for preschoolers and their families. As a key member of Sprout’s executive team, Friedman contributes to the strategic direction of the overall Sprout brand and business. Prior to Sprout, Friedman served as Senior Advisor for Scratch, Viacom’s creative S.W.A.T. team, and was Founder and President of Redhead Consulting, a brand creation and content development company across all media. A veteran of the kids’ media business, Friedman has held senior management positions across all of the Nickelodeon networks, including Nick, Noggin, and TeenNick. In her role as Senior Vice President of Original Programming/Creative Director, she was responsible for steering both Noggin and TeenNick’s original brand strategy, on-air identity, and educational mission in addition to the development and production of original programming. Friedman was the founding Creative Director/Executive Producer of Nickelodeon’s Creative Lab, the network’s experimental short form department, and began her career on the network’s Double Dare in 1987.

Friedman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she concurrently earned a B.A. degree in American Civilization and an M. A. degree in Education. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Children’s Media Association. She and her husband live in Montclair, New Jersey with their two daughters.

Randi Zuckerberg is a New York Times bestselling author, the founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media, host of “Dot Complicated” on SiriusXM, and Editor-in- Chief of, an online community helping us navigate and “untangle” our wired, wonderful lives. Randi also served as mentor on Oxygen’s show “Quit Your Day Job,” as well as executive producer of “Dot.,” based on Randi’s children’s book by the same name, which premiered on CBC and Sprout Fall 2016. Most recently, Randi self-published a teen-graphic novel “Missy President” about a young girl who, through a series of tech twists and turns, becomes president. Randi regularly appears on NBC’s TODAY show and CNBC, and has also been seen on CNN, Good Morning America, Fox Business, Bloomberg News, and ABC’s World News. She is a Tony Voter and was also a correspondent for the 2016 Tony Awards and the World Economic Forum in Davos. Randi was recently appointed as a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum and is part of the Tech Committee for the American Theatre Wing.
